The Pediatric Council on Research and Education, the foundation of the American Academy of Pediatrics/NJ Chapter has been awarded a grant through the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services to provide postpartum depression training sessions to pediatric offices throughout the State.  Since mothers of newborns visit their child’s pediatrician on a regular basis within the first 3 months of their child’s life, pediatricians are in a unique position to recognize, respond to and intervene if  a new mother exhibits signs of possible postpartum depression   The 1 ½ - 2 hour training is titled, EPIC – PPD.  EPIC stands for Educating Practices in their Communities.  EPIC trainings work with the entire office staff to educate and create changes in practice patterns.  The training is held in the primary care provider’s office/health center at a time that is convenient for all physicians and office staff to participate. The training team is comprised of an appropriate medical professional and a regional mental health services representative. The program is currently applying to offer CME and CNE credits to eligible participants.
